Stonework transformation job for customer in Northumberland

This beautiful historic farmhouse in the Tyne Valley required a full external restoration to return it to its former glory while improving its performance against the elements. The client approached us to carefully restore the property’s appearance and replace the failing cement mortar, which was no longer suitable for the building.

We carried out a full lime repointing project, meticulously removing the existing cement-based mortar and replacing it with a traditional lime mortar. This approach not only restores the original character of the property but also provides a breathable, weather-resistant finish — essential for the long-term health of period buildings.

Given the scale of the project, spanning over 400 metres of stonework, this was a complex and detailed undertaking requiring precision, care, and craftsmanship throughout.

The finished result successfully enhances the building’s appearance while protecting it for years to come. A true reflection of traditional methods combined with expert execution.

Heritage wall repair and repoint job in Northumberland

The client approached us with a historic wall of significant architectural merit that had developed a severe lean and was at risk of collapse. Preserving the structure’s character while ensuring its long-term stability was essential.

We carefully dismantled the wall by hand, meticulously numbering each stone and recording profiles of the wall’s unique shape and construction. This allowed us to accurately replicate the original design during reconstruction.

A new, solid foundation was then excavated and installed to provide the necessary structural support. Using the original materials, we rebuilt the wall to match its exact specifications, dimensions, and traditional style.

The completed project successfully restores both the safety and historic integrity of the wall. Take a look at the results to see the transformation.
